My name is Poppy Middlemas and I am a young artist from the North East of England. Currently I am studying for a Fine Art Masters at the University of Sunderland.

 

From a very young age I have felt that art would always be a big part of my life and although people told me that an art degree wouldn't get me far in life I persevered and am now pursuing an MA in the Arts.

 

I like to produce portraits mainly using graphite, oil and acrylic paint.

 

Developing my ideas was always something I found hard until I was pushed to the limit in the first semester of University, but I was grateful for the challenge. This helped me find my way as a fine artist.

 

Art History as a part of my degree has also helped me to understand where I as an artist fit into the spectrum. By writing essays and speaking publicly to my class I have came out of my shell, confidence wise and artistically. And after receiving over 80% in my dissertation I decided to pursue the Masters course given that it is split down the middle with Art History and practical work. I think this is where my strengths lie.
