The weird world of University

Well, what can I say about the first semester at University? In my first Crit I broke down, I was scared of basically every tutor who came through my Studio door and then suddenly (over the Christmas break) I had an epiphany. I started changing the way I made my artwork, using different materials and then it was like the first semester didn't even happen. Of course I had made friends and my studio was like a little haven where I could chill and talk out my problems with my 5 new friends turned physchiatrists, but since I could get along with the staff and my tutors it just changed my whole Univeristy experience. And now I don't know what I would do if I hadn't had some converstations with Marcia and Eric. I owe my new artistic abilities to them and their sometimes harsh but mosttimes needed criticism.

My first project was to draw a figure, object and landscape and then somehow squish them together in a final piece. For me this was incredibly hard and as soon as I began I felt like I could have ripped all of my hair out. I obviously started out by drawing a face, specifically Michael Fassbender from Shame because of my love of Steve McQueen's work and Michael Fassbender's ability to act. I love working in pencil because I feel like I can produce a lot more detail in a quicker time. Although my lectueres kept telling me that I was a very slow worker, probably something to do with the fact that I can't leave something alone until I feel like it's perfect.
