Others' Identity

Digital art is something I've never really thought about before, but with some inspiration from other students I thought maybe I should give it a try.

I drew my friend Jack because I love the way he portrays himself through his facebook profile pictures. This specific picture is taken from Halloween, with makeup smudged down his face and dyed black hair. I decided to leave out his irises because I was going to draw him with a strip over his eyes but when I got to that part of my drawing I thought it looked just as good without irises and kept it that way. He is drawn in charcoal pencil.

Along side this drawing, I have been drawing the back of people's heads because I want to convey identity through the fact that you can't see the subject's face or the subject's face is obscured in some way (like the way I have obscured Jack's face in my digital experimentation).

I am going to produce some oil paintings of these initial sketches and with the portrait of Jack, I will be painting a much larger portrait which will hopefully be started just before my assessment on Monday.
