Pixels and first film idea

Continuing on with the idea of identity and how people see each other I decided, again with the idea of pushing myself and changing materials, to use found materials to create a portrait. These materials were the swatches you get from places like Homebase and B & Q to choose a wall colour.

Unfortunately to get the real visual illusion of the piece you have to be standing quite far back. And to be honest I think this piece is really effective, not just visually but to give the viewer the thought of being emmersed in a world where you can look directly at someone and still not see who they truly are.
I glazed this piece as a way of trying out another material and also pulling all the stuck down strips of colour together.
This idea sprung from an experiment with film I did a few weeks back. I decided to cry into the camera but make it ambiguous as to whether I was "happy crying" or "sad crying". I obviously like painting and drawing portraits so I brought this through to my painting. And to change my materials again I painted using oils onto some old plates that I had. I think they are really effective on the plates because they are more dainty and the viewer has to actually go over to the piece to fully appreciate the sadness of the portrait.
