Big canvases, big ideas

The big canvases I have made have been sitting in my studio space just willing me to come up with ideas for them. One of my previous posts talks about the idea of submersion which I began painting onto one of the 5x4 feet canvases. That idea continues on my latest canvas except it is more of the aftermath rather than the idea itself.

I am pretty excited about painting this, and also quite scared. I have painted something this big before but it was a long time ago and with a different medium. Oil paints have always scared me but I really think they are the right medium to use on this canvas. Having always been a sketcher, this drawing was challenging but I really enjoyed doing something on this scale.

Next week will come the painting and I will probably continue during the Easter holidays.
