Recently I finished the oil painting of Misery Loves Company, and during the Crit with Eric and James there were ideas floating around that I needed to me more aware of how my ideas would come across before I started painting rather than during or when I had finished painting. For example, Eric suggested that the dog looked a little like a muff than rich women wear to keep their hands warm.
Although the painting took so long for me to finish, I am so happy with the piece.
I was inspired initially by a split second idea that flashed into my head and then I realised that I loved the idea of Martine Johanna's contemporary portraits. She is a really big inspiration for me because her portraits are so beautiful.

Her work is so atmospheric and I tried to achieve some form of this in Misery Loves Company.
