Voyeurism continued

I have been inspired by voyeurism in my work, this has pushed forward my film work and taking stills from my film to create drawings and ink sketches on canvas. I am really enjoying this type of work at the moment and want to continue in the future. After my first filming session I realised that the easiest way to create good portraits to work from was to first film myself and then edit and select the images I liked the most. This cuts out the fact that you would, if it wasn't for the editing, be able to see my breasts which I am not comfortable with at this moment. I do however think I need to push myself, that means pushing myself out of my comfort zone, not just in art and by using different mediums, but also by opening myself up to nudity and whether I am inhibiting my work by not showing the "final stage" as it were.

I am trying to challenge the relationship between domesticity and the erotic in this film. The rubber gloves obviously showing the domestic side of the woman and the suspenders showing the erotic. Although this is a self portrait, I want it to be seen as any woman rather than a critique of my own life or experiences. Therefore in my experimentation I have left out the faces in the portraits.

I want the focus to be on the body and the erotic shapes that the body can create. The gloves are just shapes, using oil pastels to crudely make their shape. The suspenders are blacked out in ink and the thighs and body are marked out slightly in black pen. I really liked the way the ink fell over the skin and down the canvas, making the painting even more suggestive.

What I have taken away from this experimentation is that I really enjoy the erotic side of the body, especially within film stills and the films themselves. I think in the future of this course I see myself making films and taking films stills while working simultaneously on a series of paintings that emphasises voyeurism through the subject matter and also through the viewers perception of the work.
