My artist practice consists of painting, experimenting with materials, making short films, taking film stills from the films and working on drawings and sketches from these stills. I am very interested in the subject of voyeurism after writing my essay this year and looking into Cindy Sherman's early photographic work. My work has taken a sudden shift towards the end of this term which hasn't helped my final grades because I seem to be flighty and not focused on a specific subject. However, now that this subject has reared it's head I am sticking to it and will hopefully produce a series of works in third year that live up to my own expectations. Personally I am really excited about where my ideas are heading. My working methodology consists of sometimes finding myself coming up with split second ideas that I need to write down before I forget (like my canvases with the bold red letters scrawled over it and my big canvas featuring myself and my dog). Sometimes however it can consist of taking films of myself, and then editing clips of them down to photographic stills and then turning them into drawings and paintings in oils, pastels, ink or graphite. My work is very much based upon other artist's work that I have seen either around the third year studios (my favourites are Stelios' large sinster looking portraits) or from Instagram such as Barnaby Whitfield and Martine Johanna (both portrait artists that feature strong narratives).
