John Currin’s work fascinates me because of how he manipulates the images he finds in magazines. I have always loved the way artists can change and manipulate their drawings and paintings and make the audience question their own vision and mind. His work of the older, skinny women are the most interesting to me because he poses the women in ways that you would see a 20 year old model in Vogue. John Currin’s bizarre vignettes of feminine allure are bound to arouse some rather rich and complicated feelings in the viewer, and that is a good thing". His work has influenced my work this year by making me finally push myself to stop being too 'perfect' when it comes to drawing a realistic portrait. I am changing my style because of artists like Currin and I am really enjoying it. Although Currin, within his portraits, is critiquing the magazine and pornography industry; this is something that I don't want to do on purpose in my work but I still have to consider this because it is a large issue within contemporary portraiture and contemporary photography.
